Job Summary:
The Tractor Trailer Driver will operate a tractor-trailer truck on an assigned route to provide safe, efficient waste and recycling collection services. The driver will transport materials to the landfill, MRF, or transfer station as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a tractor-trailer truck and on-board hydraulic systems for waste/recycling collection.
- Secure loads by properly closing tarps and ensuring no loose material is visible.
- Ensure complete unloading of trailers and provide trailer number and net weight to the CSR.
- Perform and document daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Report mechanical issues immediately to the mechanic and supervisor.
- Maintain high-quality service standards as directed by management.
- Operate equipment responsibly to avoid mechanical failures.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE (e.g., gloves, reflective vest, safety glasses, work boots).
- Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out.
- Comply with federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
- Immediately report all incidents or accidents to a supervisor.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed.
- Collaborate with supervisors to improve routing efficiency.
- Attend safety and branch meetings as scheduled.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Licensure: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
- Safety Standards: Must meet company criteria for safety-sensitive functions.
- Skills: Demonstrated ability to operate trucks and equipment safely.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Vehicle Knowledge: Understand truck components and maintenance requirements.
- Operational Skills: Ability to maneuver truck in tight spaces using mirrors.
- Safety Awareness: Recognize prohibited materials (e.g., flammable substances).
- Communication: Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Documentation: Ability to read, write, and comprehend route maps and service documents.
- Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to changes and strive for continuous improvement.
- Physical Capability: Lift, push, and carry up to 50 pounds with proper technique.
- Coordination: Simultaneously control multiple limbs while driving or performing tasks.
- Air Brake Knowledge: Familiarity with tractor-trailer air brake systems.
- Heavy Load Handling: Comfortable driving a vehicle carrying up to 80,000 lbs.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of objects.
- Sensory Requirements: Good vision for navigating traffic and tight spaces.
- Lifting: Regularly lift up to 10 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Driving: Seated for approximately 75% of work hours.
- Environmental Exposure: Work in noisy, outdoor settings, exposed to varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Frequent exposure to loud noise, humidity, and extreme temperatures.
- Potential contact with toxic or caustic materials, fumes, and airborne particles.
- Regular operation in traffic and outdoor environments.
- Occasional work at elevated heights.
