Residential- Front Load

The Residential Driver is responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing waste removal services to customers. The driver will collect solid waste or recyclables from curbside and/or backdoor routes and transport materials to post-collection facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate a residential/recycling collection truck (side-load, rear-load) and ancillary equipment to collect solid waste and recyclables.
• Load solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables into the collection vehicle.
• Operate equipment to compact trash into the vehicle.
• Follow proper procedures to prevent mechanical failures.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, daily truck reports, route sheets, and other required documentation.
• Report vehicle mechanical issues to mechanics and supervisors immediately.
• Maintain high route quality standards as set by management.
• Adhere to safety standards and comply with all federal, state/provincial, local, and company safety rules.
• Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle's interior and exterior.
• Identify and tag prohibited waste items, removing them from containers as necessary.
• Supervise Helper(s) if applicable.
• Follow all legal and company policies.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, reflective vests, safety glasses, and work boots.
• Report all accidents or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
• Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with customers or the public.
• Keep accurate records of services performed.
• Track and maintain inventory of containers, carts, and spare parts.
• Collaborate with the supervisor to optimize routing efficiency.
• Attend safety and branch meetings.
• Perform overtime work if required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience or a CDL school certificate.
• Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria in line with company standards.
• Demonstrated ability to safely drive trucks and operate equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance requirements.
• Proficiency in operating equipment and maneuvering vehicles in tight spaces.
• Ability to recognize unacceptable waste (e.g., flammable materials).
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
• Ability to read, write, and understand route documents and maps.
• Capacity to follow oral and written instructions accurately.
• Adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
• Proficiency in coordinating multiple limbs while operating equipment.
• Strict adherence to safety protocols.

Physical/Mental Demands:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing.
• Visual acuity to manage vehicles in tight spaces and high-traffic areas.
• Regular lifting of items up to 10 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 100 lbs.
• Sitting for extended periods due to driving duties.
• Ability to work in a loud environment.

Working Conditions:

• Frequent exposure to noise, humidity, and extreme weather conditions.
• Regular handling of toxic and caustic materials.
• Outdoor work for 100% of the shift.
• Possible work in elevated locations.
• Continuous exposure to traffic conditions.
